Hawaii's island geography and high cost of living create a unique ABA market with persistent staffing shortages and premium compensation. The state's autism insurance mandate covers ABA therapy, and the Department of Education is a major employer of behavior analysts for school-based services. Most opportunities are concentrated on Oahu, though outer islands offer relocation incentives.
| Role | Salary Range |
|---|---|
| BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) | $75,000-$105,000 |
| RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) | $38,000-$52,000 |
Honolulu concentrates the vast majority of Hawaii's ABA jobs, with the Department of Education and private clinics as primary employers. Military families at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam add Tricare-funded demand.
Hilo on the Big Island has very limited ABA providers, with most families traveling to Honolulu or using telehealth services. BCBAs willing to serve here fill a critical gap.
Kailua's family-friendly windward Oahu community and proximity to Marine Corps Base Hawaii drive ABA demand from both civilian and military families.
