Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to join our team for a six-month maternity leave coverage at our AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) school.
The Learning Zone is a specialized school serving students who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to support or replace spoken language. We are seeking a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who values communication, autonomy, dignity, and trauma-informed practices.
The BCBA will collaborate closely with educators, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and families to develop and oversee behavior supports that are communication-centered, strengths-based, and ethically grounded.
The BCBA position is an integral role to the daily success of The Learning Zone through direct staff support, direct student support, training, and consistent documentation related to behavior intervention.
Roles and Responsibilities
This role encompasses many roles and responsibilities including but not limited to:
Updating student BIPs and IEPs
Collecting and graphing daily behavior data
Completing student observations to take BIP specific data
Debriefing with staff following episodes of dysregulation or observation of new behaviors
Reviewing clips of episodes of dysregulation in order to determine efficacy of behavior plans as well as staff interventions
Collecting data and information for student FBAs
Connecting and collaborating with student’s outside BCBAs
Creating behavior focused visuals (ie. token boards, choice boards, zones of regulation, etc.)
Training/ updating staff on behavior plans at staff meetings (and day to day when necessary)
Attending behavior related parent/team meetings
Responding to support calls
Supporting staff with real-time feedback and problem solving
Collect fidelity data on staff’s application of behavior plans
Substitute teach as necessary with staff outages
Behavior Support & Program Development
Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) with a strong emphasis on communication needs and sensory factors
Develop and monitor individualized, positive behavior support plans aligned with AAC use
Ensure behavior plans prioritize replacement communication, regulation, and skill-building over compliance
Review data and adjust interventions based on student progress
Collaboration & Team Support
Collaborate with SLPs to ensure AAC systems are effectively integrated into behavior supports
Work closely with teachers, paraprofessionals, and therapists to support consistent implementation
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute behavior-related goals and supports
Provide coaching, modeling, and feedback to staff
Training & Capacity Building
Train staff on AAC-informed behavior strategies, data collection, and ethical practices
Support staff understanding of neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed approaches
Assist in developing school-wide behavior and regulation supports
Family Partnership
Communicate regularly with families regarding behavior supports and progress
Support carryover of communication and behavior strategies across environments
Approach family collaboration with respect, transparency, and cultural responsiveness
Ethics & Compliance
Adhere to the BACB Ethical Code
Ensure compliance with state regulations, IDEA, and school policies
Maintain accurate documentation and data systems
Pay: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour
